Light rises in the darkness for the upright; the Lord is gracious, merciful, and righteous.


For the enemy has pursued me; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.


They will collapse and fall; but we shall rise and stand upright.


The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?


Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes, and let not those wink the eye who hate me without cause.

Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant, who walks in darkness and has no light, yet trusts in the name of the Lord and relies upon his God?


The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.


Was not Israel a derision to you? Was he found among thieves, that whenever you spoke of him you wagged your head?


“Though you rejoice, though you exult, O plunderers of my heritage, though you are wanton as a heifer at grass, and neigh like stallions,


“You shall say to them, Thus says the Lord: When men fall, do they not rise again? If one turns away, does he not return?


For thus says the Lord God: Because you have clapped your hands and stamped your feet and rejoiced with all the malice within you against the land of Israel,


As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord.


therefore thus says the Lord God: I speak in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might possess it and plunder it.


“In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old;


But you should not have gloated over the day of your brother in the day of his misfortune; you should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah in the day of their ruin; you should not have boasted in the day of distress.


Writhe and groan, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail; for now you shall go forth from the city and dwell in the open country; you shall go to Babylon. There you shall be rescued, there the Lord will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.


Then my enemy will see, and shame will cover her who said to me, “Where is the Lord your God?” My eyes will gloat over her; now she will be trodden down like the mire of the streets.


On that day the Lord will put a shield about the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, at their head.


But for you who fear my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go forth leaping like calves from the stall.


the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”


Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.


Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”


to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’


For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.


persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;


And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine upon it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.


And night shall be no more; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they shall reign for ever and ever.
