“If I have made gold my trust, or called fine gold my confidence;


Surely man goes about as a shadow! Surely for naught are they in turmoil; man heaps up, and knows not who will gather!


Put no confidence in extortion, set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.


If the stolen beast is found alive in his possession, whether it is an ox or an ass or a sheep, he shall pay double.


Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.


To get wisdom is better than gold; to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.


For to the man who pleases him God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy; but to the sinner he gives the work of gathering and heaping, only to give to one who pleases God. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.


Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. In the fire of his jealous wrath, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full, yea, sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.


Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”


but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.


So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”


Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.


But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into.


And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”


Jesus looking at him said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!


As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy.


Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never fail you nor forsake you.”
