While Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, a very great assembly of men, women, and children, gathered to him out of Israel; for the people wept bitterly.


I acknowledged my sin to thee, and I did not hide my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my trangressions to the Lord”; then thou didst forgive the guilt of my sin. Selah


He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.


I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.


I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “O Lord, the great and terrible God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,


and Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the people of Israel, and all their transgressions, all their sins; and he shall put them upon the head of the goat, and send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness.


“But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers in their treachery which they committed against me, and also in walking contrary to me,


he shall confess his sin which he has committed; and he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it, and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong.


“I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.


And there went out to him all the country of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.


And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God,


John answered them all, “I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.


for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”


And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’


Many also of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices.


And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.’


and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,


and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.


with instruction about ablutions, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.


but deal only with food and drink and various ablutions, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.


Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects.


Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord God of Israel, and render praise to him; and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me.”


Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,


If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
