Why then did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.


Now John wore a garment of camel's hair, and a leather girdle around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.


What then did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings' courts.


To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless,


in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.


The man who is the most tender and delicately bred among you will grudge food to his brother, to the wife of his bosom, and to the last of the children who remain to him;


And I will grant my two witnesses power to prophesy for one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”
