The earth lies polluted under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.


And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men learned by rote;


“And the king shall do according to his will; he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak astonishing things against the God of gods. He shall prosper till the indignation is accomplished; for what is determined shall be done.


He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, two times, and half a time.


thus making void the word of God through your tradition which you hand on. And many such things you do.”


(For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they wash their hands, observing the tradition of the elders;


And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with hands defiled?”


Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.


For if some one comes and preaches another Jesus than the one we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you submit to it readily enough.


and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers.


I do not nullify the grace of God; for if justification were through the law, then Christ died to no purpose.


who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
