and he said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist, he has been raised from the dead; that is why these powers are at work in him.”


In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,


King Herod heard of it; for Jesus' name had become known. Some said, “John the baptizer has been raised from the dead; that is why these powers are at work in him.”


But others said, “It is Elijah.” And others said, “It is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”


Now it happened that as he was praying alone the disciples were with him; and he asked them, “Who do the people say that I am?”


And he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”


And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” And he answered, “No.”


They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”


When they heard these words, some of the people said, “This is really the prophet.”


So they again said to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
