Bear fruit that befits repentance,


and do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.


When once the householder has risen up and shut the door, you will begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us.’ He will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’


Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’


and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.


He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”


And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.


And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, “Who is this that speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God only?”


They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one. How is it that you say, ‘You will be made free’?”


They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did,


but declared first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and perform deeds worthy of their repentance.


That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his descendants—not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham, for he is the father of us all,


and not all are children of Abraham because they are his descendants; but “Through Isaac shall your descendants be named.”


filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
