And when the king of Israel read the letter, he rent his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me.”


Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk.


But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites?


And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him.


And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodi-ans, to entrap him in his talk.


And they watched him, to see whether he would heal him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him.


As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things,


So they watched him, and sent spies, who pretended to be sincere, that they might take hold of what he said, so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor.


And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him by what he said; but marveling at his answer they were silent.


But do not yield to them; for more than forty of their men lie in ambush for him, having bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.”
