Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.


The Lord gives the command; great is the host of those who bore the tidings:


“ ‘And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.


Woe to my worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May the sword smite his arm and his right eye! Let his arm be wholly withered, his right eye utterly blinded!”


Those who buy them slay them and go unpunished; and those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, I have become rich’; and their own shepherds have no pity on them.


And I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take some of the spirit which is upon you and put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone.


But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!”


“For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.


It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch.


And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.


And they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.


And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,


Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to none except Jews.


While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”


So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia; and from there they sailed to Cyprus.


Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God which he obtained with the blood of his own Son.


And he said to me, ‘Depart; for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”


Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word.


And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues.


But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God which is with me.


Working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain.


They all look after their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.


I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need,


for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete your service to me.


For this I toil, striving with all the energy which he mightily inspires within me.


Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always remembering you earnestly in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.


For you remember our labor and toil, brethren; we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you, while we preached to you the gospel of God.


But we beseech you, brethren, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,


Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed on and triumph, as it did among you,


For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.


As for you, always be steady, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.

but Christ was faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house if we hold fast our confidence and pride in our hope.
