To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children, yet your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”


So David sent messengers, and took her; and she came to him, and he lay with her. (Now she was purifying herself from her uncleanness.) Then she returned to her house.


Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? There is not one.


What is man, that he can be clean? Or he that is born of a woman, that he can be righteous?


How then can man be righteous before God? How can he who is born of woman be clean?


Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.


But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation; and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying for sixty-six days.


“When a woman has a discharge of blood which is her regular discharge from her body, she shall be in her impurity for seven days, and whoever touches her shall be unclean until the evening.


“You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness while she is in her menstrual uncleanness.


Or if he touches human uncleanness, of whatever sort the uncleanness may be with which one becomes unclean, and it is hidden from him, when he comes to know it he shall be guilty.


And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord
