40 So Joshua defeated the whole land, the hill country and the Negeb and the lowland and the slopes, and all their kings; he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the Lord God of Israel commanded.

Now the cities of the tribe of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, Beth-hoglah, Emek-keziz,

Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took as their booty, according to the word of the Lord which he commanded Joshua.


They answered Joshua, “Because it was told to your servants for a certainty that the Lord your God had commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; so we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and did this thing.
