if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’


My eye has grown dim from grief, and all my members are like a shadow.


My bones cleave to my skin and to my flesh, and I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.


and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then from my flesh I shall see God,


The squares of the town forget them; their name is no longer remembered; so wickedness is broken like a tree.’


yet thou wilt plunge me into a pit, and my own clothes will abhor me.


From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and bleeding wounds; they are not pressed out, or bound up, or softened with oil.


Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering.


“And they shall go forth and look on the dead bodies of the men that have rebelled against me; for their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”


And there you shall remember your ways and all the doings with which you have polluted yourselves; and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed.


Immediately an angel of the Lord smote him, because he did not give God the glory; and he was eaten by worms and died.
