“Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, or shoot an arrow there, or come before it with a shield, or cast up a siege mound against it.


For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, “Violence and destruction!” For the word of the Lord has become for me a reproach and derision all day long.


But you have eyes and heart only for your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence.”


Behold, the siege mounds have come up to the city to take it, and because of sword and famine and pestilence the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it. What thou didst speak has come to pass, and behold, thou seest it.


This city has aroused my anger and wrath, from the day it was built to this day, so that I will remove it from my sight


For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah which were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and before the sword:


In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it;


Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this?”

and put siegeworks against it, and build a siege wall against it, and cast up a mound against it; set camps also against it, and plant battering rams against it round about.


Thus says the Lord God: This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the center of the nations, with countries round about her.


Then the king of the north shall come and throw up siegeworks, and take a well-fortified city. And the forces of the south shall not stand, or even his picked troops, for there shall be no strength to stand.


Woe to her that is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city!


For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will cast up a bank about you and surround you, and hem you in on every side,
