and also for the innocent blood that he had shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord would not pardon.

There are six things which the Lord hates, seven which are an abomination to him:

Thus says the Lord: Do justice and righteousness, and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has been robbed. And do no wrong or violence to the alien, the fatherless, and the widow, nor shed innocent blood in this place.


Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying, “The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard.


The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:


if you do not oppress the alien, the fatherless or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt,


You shall not thus pollute the land in which you live; for blood pollutes the land, and no expiation can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of him who shed it.


Judas, who betrayed him, said, “Is it I, Master?” He said to him, “You have said so.”


and took counsel together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.


And he knelt down and cried with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.


lest innocent blood be shed in your land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance, and so the guilt of bloodshed be upon you.


For men have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink. It is their due!”
