He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.


But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’


Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the people to ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.


But I say to you, Do not resist one who is evil. But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also;


And he said, ‘The God of our fathers appointed you to know his will, to see the Just One and to hear a voice from his mouth;


Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,


Now the passage of the scripture which he was reading was this: “As a sheep led to the slaughter or a lamb before its shearer is dumb, so he opens not his mouth.


but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”


But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you, is it not they who drag you into court?


You desire and do not have; so you kill. And you covet and cannot obtain; so you fight and wage war. You do not have, because you do not ask.


And “If the righteous man is scarcely saved, where will the impious and sinner appear?”
