But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and she put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. Thus she hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not slain;


“And now you think to withstand the kingdom of the Lord in the hand of the sons of David, because you are a great multitude and have with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.


Yet the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant which he had made with David, and since he had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons for ever.


Therefore the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who defeated him with great slaughter.


If they plan evil against you, if they devise mischief, they will not succeed.


They lay crafty plans against thy people; they consult together against thy protected ones.


Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will be established.


In the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it.


Because Syria, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has devised evil against you, saying,


thus says the Lord God: It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass.


“Because this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and melt in fear before Rezin and the son of Remaliah;
