“So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.”


“If you return, O Israel, says the Lord, to me you should return. If you remove your abominations from my presence, and do not waver,


I will destroy you, O Israel; who can help you?


The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned!


The pride of Israel testifies to his face; Ephraim shall stumble in his guilt; Judah also shall stumble with them.


Your wickedness will chasten you, and your apostasy will reprove you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, says the Lord God of hosts.


And the Lord will smite Egypt, smiting and healing, and they will return to the Lord, and he will heed their supplications and heal them.


Say to them, As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?


Again, though I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ yet if he turns from his sin and does what is lawful and right,


They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity.


The days of punishment have come, the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is mad, because of your great iniquity and great hatred.


Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain salvation upon you.


Ephraim has said, “Ah, but I am rich, I have gained wealth for myself”; but all his riches can never offset the guilt he has incurred.


And Hazael said, “Why does my lord weep?” He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the people of Israel; you will set on fire their fortresses, and you will slay their young men with the sword, and dash in pieces their little ones, and rip up their women with child.”


And your elder sister is Samaria, who lived with her daughters to the north of you; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you, is Sodom with her daughters.


Ephraim's sons, as I have seen, are destined for a prey; Ephraim must lead forth his sons to slaughter.


Thus says the Lord: “For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment; because they have ripped up women with child in Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.
