Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”


Then Joseph fell on his father's face, and wept over him, and kissed him.


So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.


They buried him in the tomb which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David. They laid him on a bier which had been filled with various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumer's art; and they made a very great fire in his honor.


In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial.


She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burying.


And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.


But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared.


Jesus said, “Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial.
