Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple.


Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming; but who can stand before jealousy?


“If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside the family to a stranger; her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.


And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his brother who is dead, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel.


For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another;


But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.


For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.


Or do you suppose it is in vain that the scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit which he has made to dwell in us”?


But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters, why will you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb that they may become your husbands?


Also Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brethren and from the gate of his native place; you are witnesses this day.”
