So he returned to Judah, and said, “I have not found her; and also the men of the place said, ‘No harlot has been here.’ ”


About three months later Judah was told, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; and moreover she is with child by harlotry.” And Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burned.”


Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the Ammonites.


Wounds and dishonor will he get, and his disgrace will not be wiped away.


But then what return did you get from the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death.


We have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.


For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret;


(“Lo, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is he who is awake, keeping his garments that he may not go naked and be seen exposed!”)
