Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the Lord. And the Lord said, “There is bloodguilt on Saul and on his house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”


And they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father; and they did all that the king commanded. And after that God heeded supplications for the land.


The king replied to him, “Do as he has said, strike him down and bury him; and thus take away from me and from my father's house the guilt for the blood which Joab shed without cause.


No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you out of compassion for you; but you were cast out on the open field, for you were abhorred, on the day that you were born.


He who kills a man shall be put to death.


He who kills a beast shall make it good; and he who kills a man shall be put to death.


Moreover you shall accept no ransom for the life of a murderer, who is guilty of death; but he shall be put to death.


you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him;


then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him from there, and hand him over to the avenger of blood, so that he may die.


Your eye shall not pity; it shall be life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.


So you shall purge the guilt of innocent blood from your midst, when you do what is right in the sight of the Lord.


then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall have no pity.


And you shall destroy all the peoples that the Lord your God will give over to you, your eye shall not pity them; neither shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.


and when the Lord your God gives them over to you, and you defeat them; then you must utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, and show no mercy to them.
