“But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear testimony before them.


But Jews came there from Antioch and Iconium; and having persuaded the people, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.


When an attempt was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to molest them and to stone them,


Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren,


men who have risked their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.


but Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.


As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by soothsaying.


and when they had brought them to the magistrates they said, “These men are Jews and they are disturbing our city.


But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them,


And he called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas,


And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brethren before the city authorities, crying, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,


Then all the city was aroused, and the people ran together; they seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut.


But Saul was ravaging the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them to prison.


for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”


beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger;


engaged in the same conflict which you saw and now hear to be mine.


but though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the face of great opposition.


For the love of money is the root of all evils; it is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many pangs.


But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you, is it not they who drag you into court?
