22 And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house, and to hear what you have to say.”

“I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word,


for I have given them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from thee; and they have believed that thou didst send me.


Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.


It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.


Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life;


a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms liberally to the people, and prayed constantly to God.


And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for your coming?”


And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel,


So I sent to you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”


he is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside.”


he will declare to you a message by which you will be saved, you and all your household.’


“And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who lived there,


having a hope in God which these themselves accept, that there will be a resurrection of both the just and the unjust.


Therefore, brethren, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this duty.


For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “He who through faith is righteous shall live.”


All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;


Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’


moreover he must be well thought of by outsiders, or he may fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.


but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”


For by it the men of old received divine approval.


and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,


that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles.


Demetrius has testimony from every one, and from the truth itself; I testify to him too, and you know my testimony is true.


he also shall drink the wine of God's wrath, poured unmixed into the cup of his anger, and he shall be tormented with fire and sulphur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb.
