And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, who had been sent to him to inquire about the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, in order to try him and to know all that was in his heart.


And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, he is in your power; only spare his life.”


So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord, and afflicted Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.


“And for the house of Israel there shall be no more a brier to prick or a thorn to hurt them among all their neighbors who have treated them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.


But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him;


Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns; and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths.


But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell.


Then they spat in his face, and struck him; and some slapped him,


Then Jesus said to him, “Begone, Satan! for it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’ ”


And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?”


To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless,


you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.


For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.”


We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle to the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,


For you bear it if a man makes slaves of you, or preys upon you, or takes advantage of you, or puts on airs, or strikes you in the face.


I must boast; there is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord.


you know it was because of a bodily ailment that I preached the gospel to you at first;


that his heart may not be lifted up above his brethren, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left; so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel.


then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,


He must not be a recent convert, or he may be puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil;


So now I say, I will not drive them out before you; but they shall become adversaries to you, and their gods shall be a snare to you.”
