but you have done evil above all that were before you and have gone and made for yourself other gods, and molten images, provoking me to anger, and have cast me behind your back;


and he appointed his own priests for the high places, and for the satyrs, and for the calves which he had made.


O our God, wilt thou not execute judgment upon them? For we are powerless against this great multitude that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon thee.”


and said, “O Lord, God of our fathers, art thou not God in heaven? Dost thou not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? In thy hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee.


Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and set you on his throne as king for the Lord your God! Because your God loved Israel and would establish them for ever, he has made you king over them, that you may execute justice and righteousness.”


A king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.


But his citizens hated him and sent an embassy after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’


But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.’ ”
