And the whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind.


And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had rendered; and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him, to render justice.


But the Lord said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;


Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brethren and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God; and I made preparations for building.


wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. I will also give you riches, possessions, and honor, such as none of the kings had who were before you, and none after you shall have the like.”


The wisdom of a prudent man is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving.


for he is like one who is inwardly reckoning. “Eat and drink!” he says to you; but his heart is not with you.


By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just;


While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”


For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.


Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good life let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom.


But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or insincerity.


But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
