And what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord, and he slew him also.


But Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.


“If a man sins against his neighbor and is made to take an oath, and comes and swears his oath before thine altar in this house,


then hear thou in heaven, and act, and judge thy servants, condemning the guilty by bringing his conduct upon his own head, and vindicating the righteous by rewarding him according to his righteousness.


So the king did not hearken to the people; for it was a turn of affairs brought about by God that the Lord might fulfil his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.


But as he was speaking the king said to him, “Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be put to death?” So the prophet stopped, but said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

but a fearful prospect of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries.


Consequently he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.


For it was the Lord's doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be utterly destroyed, and should receive no mercy but be exterminated, as the Lord commanded Moses.


Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated by sacrifice or offering for ever.”
