Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build a house for the Lord, the God of Israel.


David said to Solomon, “My son, I had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the Lord my God.


Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brethren and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God; and I made preparations for building.


Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the Chronicles of Samuel the seer, and in the Chronicles of Nathan the prophet, and in the Chronicles of Gad the seer,


(But David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it, for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.)


until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”


“Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen and blue and purple and scarlet stuff; with cherubim skilfully worked shall you make them.


Do you think you are a king because you compete in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.


I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house and prospering in my palace.


“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?


You have looked for much, and lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while you busy yourselves each with his own house.


who found favor in the sight of God and asked leave to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.
