Mine eyes did timeously prevent the watches of the night, That in thy word with careful mind then meditate I might.


Thy name by night, Lord, I did mind, and I have kept thy law.


Then with integrity of heart thee will I praise and bless, When I the judgments all have learn'd of thy pure righteousness.


Thou prov'dst mine heart, thou visit'dst me by night, thou didst me try, Yet nothing found'st; for that my mouth shall not sin, purpos'd I.


All day, my God, to thee I cry, yet am not heard by thee; And in the season of the night I cannot silent be.


His loving-kindness yet the Lord command will in the day, His song's with me by night; to God, by whom I live, I'll pray:


When I do thee upon my bed remember with delight, And when on thee I meditate in watches of the night.


Thus grieved was my heart in me, and me my reins opprest:


Thou, with thy counsel, while I live, wilt me conduct and guide; And to thy glory afterward receive me to abide.


I in my trouble sought the Lord, my sore by night did run, And ceased not; my grieved soul did consolation shun.


By night my song I call to mind, and commune with my heart; My sp'rit did carefully enquire how I might ease my smart.
