Except the Lord do build the house, the builders lose their pain: Except the Lord the city keep, the watchmen watch in vain.


God will him keep, yea, save alive; on earth he bless'd shall live; And to his enemies' desire thou wilt him not up give.


But thou, O Lord my God, those men in justice shalt o'erthrow, And in destruction's dungeon dark at last shalt lay them low: The bloody and deceitful men shall not live half their days: But upon thee with confidence I will depend always.


Our soul in life who safe preserves, our foot from sliding stays.


They in their hands shall bear thee up, still waiting thee upon; Lest thou at any time should'st dash thy foot against a stone.
