and said to them, “As far as we were able, we have bought back our Jewish kindred who had been sold to other nations, but now you are selling your own kin, who must then be bought back by us!” They were silent and could not find a word to say.


“Whoever kidnaps a person, whether that person has been sold or is still held in possession, shall be put to death.


I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.


your anointing oils are fragrant; your name is perfume poured out; therefore the maidens love you.


Who is that coming up from the wilderness like a column of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all the fragrant powders of the merchant?


I arose to open to my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with liquid myrrh, upon the handles of the bolt.


Thus says the Lord: Where is your mother’s bill of divorce with which I dismissed her? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? No, because of your sins you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was dismissed.


Javan, Tubal, and Meshech traded with you; they exchanged human beings and vessels of bronze for your merchandise.


Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals—


who drink wine from bowls and anoint themselves with the finest oils but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph!


buying the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals and selling the sweepings of the wheat.”


“If someone is caught kidnaping another Israelite, enslaving or selling the Israelite, then that kidnaper shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.


The Lord will bring you back in ships to Egypt, by a route that I promised you would never see again, and there you shall offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer.”


the sexually immoral, men who engage in illicit sex, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching


And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.


“The fruit for which your soul longed has gone from you, and all your delicacies and your splendor are lost to you, never to be found again!”


The merchants of these wares, who grew wealthy from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud,
