But I am a worm and not human, scorned by others and despised by the people.


My friends and companions stand aloof from my affliction, and my neighbors stand far off.


Because of their tongue he will bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake with horror.


You have caused friend and neighbor to shun me; my companions are in darkness.

For Christ did not please himself, but, as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”


At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them!


Others suffered mocking and flogging and even chains and imprisonment.


Let us then go to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured.


If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.
