Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage.


But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend;


Not like these is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the Lord of hosts is his name.


They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.


yet the Lord set his heart in love on your ancestors alone and chose you, their descendants after them, out of all the peoples, as it is today.


Today the Lord has obtained your agreement: to be his treasured people, as he promised you, and to keep all his commandments;


the Lord’s own portion was his people, Jacob his allotted share.


He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.


But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.


For the Lord will not cast away his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself.
