and the seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in every country, but throughout the land of Egypt there was bread.


Now there was no food in all the land, for the famine was very severe. The land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.


Shall we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land in exchange for food. We with our land will become slaves to Pharaoh; just give us seed, so that we may live and not die and that the land may not become desolate.”

Is a trumpet blown in a city, and the people are not afraid? Does disaster befall a city unless the Lord has done it?


I struck you and every work of your hands with blight and mildew and hail, yet you did not return to me, says the Lord.


Now there came a famine throughout Egypt and Canaan and great suffering, and our ancestors could find no food.


I looked, and there was a pale green horse! Its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed with him; they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, famine, and pestilence and by the wild animals of the earth.
