I was a father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger.


“If I have rejected the cause of my male or female slaves, when they brought a complaint against me,


if I have raised my hand against the orphan because I saw I had supporters at the gate;


I will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have taken notice of my adversities


Happy are those who consider the poor; the Lord delivers them in the day of trouble.


For he delivers the needy when they call, the poor and those who have no helper.


If you close your ear to the cry of the poor, you will cry out and not be heard.


they have grown fat and sleek. They know no limits in deeds of wickedness; they do not judge with justice the cause of the orphan, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.


Father and mother are treated with contempt in you; the alien residing within you suffers extortion; the orphan and the widow are wronged in you.


My brothers and sisters, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted.


My lord, do not take seriously this ill-natured fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him, but I, your servant, did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent.
