Then the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.


Lying lips conceal hatred, and whoever utters slander is a fool.


“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside look beautiful but inside are full of the bones of the dead and of all kinds of uncleanness.


They come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but they will not obey them. For flattery is on their lips, but their heart is set on their gain.


Take away the dross from the silver, and the smith has material for a vessel;


when an enemy speaks graciously, do not believe it, for there are seven abominations concealed within;


for like a hair in the throat, so are they. “Eat and drink!” they say to you, but they do not mean it.


Well meant are the wounds a friend inflicts, but profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
