“Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life and that day does not catch you unexpectedly,


let us walk decently as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in illicit sex and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy.


Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine and valiant at mixing drink,


and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eats and drinks with drunkards,


“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning in pursuit of strong drink, who linger in the evening to be inflamed by wine,


Those who keep the law are wise children, but companions of gluttons shame their parents.


Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.


They shall say to the elders of his town, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’


and put a knife to your throat if you have a big appetite.


Whoever loves pleasure will suffer want; whoever loves wine and oil will not be rich.
