But he disregarded the advice that the older men gave him and consulted with the young men who had grown up with him and now attended him.


When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is surely the king of Israel.” So they turned to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat cried out.


He said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you go with me to battle at Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “I am as you are; my people are your people; my horses are your horses.”


But he rejected the advice that the older men gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and now attended him.


Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, wrath has gone out against you from the Lord.


He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab, for after the death of his father they were his counselors, to his ruin.


I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.


A desire realized is sweet to the soul, but to turn away from evil is an abomination to fools.


Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not find words of knowledge.


The ear that heeds wholesome admonition will lodge among the wise.


Make no friends with those given to anger, and do not associate with hotheads,


lest you learn their ways and entangle yourself in a snare.


Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.


Lay aside immaturity and live, and walk in the way of insight.”


Then those who revered the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who revered the Lord and thought on his name.


They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.


And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds,
