The chief priest Azariah, who was of the house of Zadok, answered him, “Since they began to bring the contributions into the house of the Lord, we have had enough to eat and have plenty to spare, for the Lord has blessed his people, so that we have this great supply left over.”


They have distributed freely; they have given to the poor; their righteousness endures forever; their horn is exalted in honor.


The wicked earn no real gain, but those who sow righteousness get a true reward.


The desire of the righteous ends only in good, the expectation of the wicked in wrath.


A generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water.


Some pretend to be rich yet have nothing; others pretend to be poor yet have great wealth.


Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord and will be repaid in full.


Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but one who turns a blind eye will get many a curse.


One who augments wealth by exorbitant interest gathers it for another who is kind to the poor.


In the morning sow your seed, and at evening do not let your hands be idle, for you do not know which will prosper, this or that, or whether both alike will be good.


You have sown much and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and you that earn wages earn wages to put them into a bag with holes.


Will anyone rob God? Yet you are robbing me! But you say, “How are we robbing you?” In your tithes and offerings!


give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap, for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”


Give liberally and be ungrudging when you do so, for on this account the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you undertake.
