When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was,


they cried out with a loud voice, “Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long will it be before you judge and avenge our blood on the inhabitants of the earth?”


Moreover, that whole generation was gathered to their ancestors, and another generation grew up after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel.


for his judgments are true and just; he has judged the great whore who corrupted the earth with her prostitution, and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”


Rejoice over her, O heaven, you saints and apostles and prophets! For God has condemned her condemnation of you.


For we know the one who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.”


that no one wrong or exploit a brother or sister in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as we have already told you beforehand and solemnly warned you.


for it is God’s agent for your good. But if you do what is wrong, you should be afraid, for the authority does not bear the sword in vain! It is the agent of God to execute wrath on the wrongdoer.


Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”


“For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, died, was laid beside his ancestors, and experienced corruption,


for these are days of vengeance, as a fulfillment of all that is written.


A jealous and avenging God is the Lord; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and prolongs it against his enemies.


Therefore says the Sovereign, the Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Surely I will pour out my wrath on my enemies and avenge myself on my foes!


When the people saw him, they praised their god, for they said, “Our god has given our enemy into our hand, the ravager of our country, who has killed many of us.”


for the day of vengeance and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip? Because the day of their calamity is at hand; their doom comes swiftly.


So Moses spoke to the people, saying, “Arm some of your number for the war, so that they may go against Midian, to execute the Lord’s vengeance on Midian.


Just then one of the Israelites came and brought a Midianite woman into his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the Israelites, while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.


strip Aaron of his vestments, and put them on his son Eleazar. But Aaron shall be gathered to his people and shall die there.”


“Let Aaron be gathered to his people. For he shall not enter the land that I have given to the Israelites, because you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah.


The priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came to draw water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.


(This is the length of the life of Ishmael, one hundred thirty-seven years; he breathed his last and died and was gathered to his people.)


Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, old and full of years, and was gathered to his people.


As for yourself, you shall go to your ancestors in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age.


While Israel was staying at Shittim, the people began to have sexual relations with the women of Moab.


The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,


For I am going to die in this land without crossing over the Jordan, but you are going to cross over to take possession of that good land.
