You show steadfast love to the thousandth generation but repay the guilt of parents into the laps of their children after them, O great and mighty God whose name is the Lord of hosts,


Our ancestors sinned; they are no more, and we bear their iniquities.


He prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord! Is not this what I said while I was still in my own country? That is why I fled to Tarshish at the beginning, for I knew that you are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment.


Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of his possession? He does not retain his anger forever because he delights in showing steadfast love.


And now, therefore, let the power of the Lord be great in the way that you promised when you spoke, saying,


He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob, nor has he seen trouble in Israel. The Lord their God is with them, acclaimed as a king among them.


so that, just as sin reigned in death, so grace might also reign through justification leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
