He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God; he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord, the God of Israel.


For we are slaves; yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to give us new life to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judea and Jerusalem.


Nevertheless, in your great mercies you did not make an end of them or forsake them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.


But they soon forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.


Our ancestors, when they were in Egypt, did not consider your wonderful works; they did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love but rebelled against the Most High at the Red Sea.


But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.


They did not keep God’s covenant and refused to walk according to his law.


They forgot what he had done and the miracles that he had shown them.


Yet he, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; often he restrained his anger and did not stir up all his wrath.


But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.


For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.


The Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, how stiff-necked they are.


Because I have called and you refused, have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,


But my people have forgotten me; they burn offerings to a delusion; they have stumbled in their ways, in the ancient roads, and have gone into bypaths, not the highway,


Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I am now bringing upon this city and upon all its towns all the disaster that I have pronounced against it, because they have stiffened their necks, refusing to hear my words.


yet they did not listen to me or pay attention, but they stiffened their necks. They did worse than their ancestors did.


But she has rebelled against my ordinances and my statutes, becoming more wicked than the nations and the countries all around her, rejecting my ordinances and not following my statutes.


To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, but we have rebelled against him


rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from punishment.


Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not spurn them or abhor them so as to destroy them utterly and break my covenant with them, for I am the Lord their God,


The Lord is slow to anger but great in power, and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.


And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? And how long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs that I have done among them?


But Moses said, “Why do you continue to transgress the command of the Lord? That will not succeed.


It is clear you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Would you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come!”


Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him; instead, they pushed him aside, and in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,


For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”


See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking, for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven!


For the Lord will not cast away his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself.
