Then I perceived and saw that God had not sent him at all, but he had pronounced the prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.


So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it to come down to you?”


for they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, strengthen my hands.


For the righteous will never be moved; they will be remembered forever.


Their hearts are steady; they will not be afraid; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.


The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.


Dead flies make the perfumer’s ointment give off a foul odor; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.


The glory of his forest and his fruitful land the Lord will destroy, both soul and body, and it will be as when an invalid wastes away.


But you shall enroll Aaron and his descendants; it is they who shall attend to the priesthood, and any outsider who comes near shall be put to death.”


But I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God’s grace.


Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”


And Saul approved of their killing him. That day a severe persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout the countryside of Judea and Samaria.


But even if I am being poured out as a libation over the sacrifice and the service of your faith, I rejoice, and I rejoice together with all of you;


because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for those services that you could not give me.


By faith he left Egypt, unafraid of the king’s anger, for he persevered as though he saw him who is invisible.


for he took his life in his hand when he attacked the Philistine, and the Lord brought about a great victory for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced; why then will you sin against an innocent person by killing David without cause?”
