After him the Tekoites repaired another section opposite the great projecting tower as far as the wall of Ophel.


Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman. He said to her, “Pretend to be a mourner; put on mourning garments, and do not anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a woman who has been mourning many days for the dead.


Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.


Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?


Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.


The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of King Uzziah of Judah and in the days of King Jeroboam son of Joash of Israel, two years before the earthquake.


I spoke to King Zedekiah of Judah in the same way: Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.


But if any nation or kingdom will not serve this king, Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, then I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, says the Lord, until I have completed its destruction by his hand.


Thus the Lord said to me: Make for yourself yoke straps and bars and put them on your neck.


Curse Meroz, says the angel of the Lord; curse bitterly its inhabitants, because they did not come to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty.


Next to them Meremoth son of Uriah son of Hakkoz made repairs. Next to them Meshullam son of Berechiah son of Meshezabel made repairs. Next to them Zadok son of Baana made repairs.


Joiada son of Paseah and Meshullam son of Besodeiah repaired the Old Gate; they laid its beams and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars.


He built up Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,


Flee for safety, O children of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise a signal on Beth-haccherem, for evil looms out of the north and great destruction.
