Nehemiah 3:15 - New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition 2021

David occupied the stronghold and named it the city of David. David built the city all around from the Millo inward.


Then a breach was made in the city wall; the king with all the soldiers fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, by the King’s Garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city. They went in the direction of the Arabah.


This same Hezekiah closed the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon and directed them down to the west side of the city of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.


At the Fountain Gate, in front of them, they went straight up by the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, to the Water Gate on the east.


Then I went on to the Fountain Gate and to the King’s Pool, but there was no place for the animal I was riding to continue.


Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we may no longer suffer disgrace.”


Next to him Shallum son of Hallohesh, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs, he and his daughters.


Malchijah son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem, repaired the Dung Gate; he rebuilt it and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars.


next to him Ezer son of Jeshua, ruler of Mizpah, repaired another section opposite the ascent to the armory at the Angle.


Next to them repairs were made by Melatiah the Gibeonite and Jadon the Meronothite—the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah—who were under the jurisdiction of the governor of the province Beyond the River.


Next to them Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs.


I made myself pools from which to water the forest of growing trees.


“Because this people has refused the waters of Shiloah that flow gently and melt in fear before Rezin and the son of Remaliah,


Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left in the land.


Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam fell on them—do you think that they were worse offenders than all the other people living in Jerusalem?


saying to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.


Then all the Israelites came out, from Dan to Beer-sheba, including the land of Gilead, and the congregation assembled in one body before the Lord at Mizpah.


(Now the Benjaminites heard that the Israelites had gone up to Mizpah.) And the Israelites said, “Tell us, how did this criminal act come about?”
