He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.


But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of families in Israel said to them, “You shall have no part with us in building a house for our God, but we alone will build for the Lord, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus of Persia has commanded us.”


When I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days, fasting and praying before the God of heaven.


Then the king said to me, “What do you request?” So I prayed to the God of heaven.


“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that, if any man or woman goes to the king inside the inner court without being called, there is but one law: to be put to death. Only if the king holds out the golden scepter to someone may that person live. I myself have not been called to come in to the king for thirty days.”


He will regard the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their prayer.


Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.


May we shout for joy over your victory and in the name of our God set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.


Let those who desire my vindication shout for joy and be glad and say evermore, “Great is the Lord, who delights in the welfare of his servant.”


Do good to Zion in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem;


So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastpiece of judgment on his heart when he goes into the holy place, for a continual remembrance before the Lord.


It is good that you should take hold of the one without letting go of the other, for the one who fears God shall succeed with both.


I will give, in my house and within my walls, a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.


and bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. After taking from it a handful of the choice flour and oil, with all its frankincense, the priest shall turn this token portion into smoke on the altar, an offering by fire of pleasing odor to the Lord.


You shall put pure frankincense with each row, to be a token offering for the bread, as an offering by fire to the Lord.


And the crown shall be in the care of Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Josiah son of Zephaniah, as a memorial in the temple of the Lord.


Also on your days of rejoicing, at your appointed festivals, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over your sacrifices of well-being; they shall serve as a reminder on your behalf before the Lord your God: I am the Lord your God.”


He said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your alms have been remembered before God.


He stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” He answered, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.


You have no part or share in this, for your heart is not right before God.
