King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women,


Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have trespassed and married foreign women and so increased the guilt of Israel.


All these had married foreign women, and they sent them away with their children.


We will not give our daughters to the peoples of the land or take their daughters for our sons,


and if the peoples of the land bring in merchandise or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy it from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day, and we will forego the crops of the seventh year and the exaction of every debt.


On that day they read from the book of Moses in the hearing of the people, and in it was found written that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever enter the assembly of God,


and half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah but spoke the language of various peoples.


Shall we then listen to you and do all this great evil and act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?”


But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem was going forward and the gaps were beginning to be closed, they were very angry


“Observe what I command you today. See, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.


Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and lawlessness have in common? Or what partnership is there between light and darkness?


“When the Lord your God brings you into the land that you are about to enter and occupy and he clears away many nations before you—the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than you—


These took Moabite wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. When they had lived there about ten years,


When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod;
