How long must I see the standard and hear the sound of the trumpet?


For I heard a cry as of a woman in labor, anguish as of one bringing forth her first child, the cry of daughter Zion gasping for breath, stretching out her hands, “Woe is me! I am fainting before killers!”


the towns shall be taken and the strongholds seized. The hearts of the warriors of Moab, on that day, shall be like the heart of a woman in labor.


The king of Babylon heard news of them, and his hands fell helpless; anguish seized him, pain like that of a woman in labor.


Listen! The cry of the daughter of my people from far and wide in the land: “Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King not in her?” (“Why have they provoked me to anger with their images, with their foreign idols?”)

The pangs of childbirth come for him, but he is an unwise son, for at the proper time he does not present himself at the mouth of the womb.


For the Israelites shall remain many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillar, without ephod or teraphim.


Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has brought forth; then the rest of his kindred shall return to the people of Israel.


When a woman is in labor, she has pain because her hour has come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world.


She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pangs, in the agony of giving birth.
