What do you mean by crushing my people, by grinding the face of the poor? says the Lord God of hosts.


Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!


I will announce your verdict, and the objects you made will not help you.


Therefore thus says the Lord God: The slain whom you have placed within it are the meat, and this city is the pot, but you shall be taken out of it.


Its officials within it are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.

Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.


But you rise up against my people as an enemy; you strip the robe from the peaceful, from those who pass by trustingly with no thought of war.


The faithful have disappeared from the land, and there is no one left who is upright; they all lie in wait for blood, and they hunt each other with nets.


Their hands are skilled to do evil; the official and the judge ask for a bribe, and the powerful dictate what they desire; thus they pervert justice.


The officials within it are roaring lions; its judges are evening wolves that leave nothing until the morning.


But the citizens of his country hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’


They shouted in reply, “Not this man but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a rebel.


The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify against it that its works are evil.


They know God’s decree, that those who practice such things deserve to die, yet they not only do them but even applaud others who practice them.


Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good;


unfeeling, implacable, slanderers, profligates, brutes, haters of good,
