Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, King Joash of Israel went down to him and wept before him, crying, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”


Elisha kept watching and crying out, “Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.


When the king of Israel saw them he said to Elisha, “Father, shall I strike them? Shall I strike them?”


A son honors his father and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is the honor due me? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the Lord of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. You say, “How have we despised your name?”


Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Messiah.


For it is the gentiles who seek all these things, and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.


If you, then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!


“Brothers and fathers, listen to the defense that I now make before you.”


For though you might have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers. Indeed, in Christ Jesus I fathered you through the gospel.


and I will be your father, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”


Moreover, we had human parents to discipline us, and we respected them. Should we not be even more willing to be subject to the Father of spirits and live?


See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God, and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
